How I Came to Write This Book

For this third and final title in the Nora Notebooks series, it was time for Nora not only to make peace with her former nemesis, Emma, but for the two girls actually to become friends. School activities in this book include a classroom garden and a poetry-writing unit. The latter gave me a chance to use one of my favorite recent experiences. I love to write in cafes, and one day I was busy scribbling away in the café by my house, when an entire elementary-school class arrived, some wearing tie-dyed T-shirts and hippie headbands, some wearing black turtlenecks and French berets. When I made inquiries (of course, I had to make inquiries), I learned they were on a class trip for the sole purpose of writing poetry in a café. So Nora, Emma, and the rest of her classmates do the same. Yay for writing in cafes!
